At St Mary’s, Collective Worship is central to our school life and plays an important role in living out our Christian vision of enabling every child to “shine brighter and brighter”. Each day our school community gathers to pause, reflect and grow together spiritually. Worship provides a shared opportunity to explore Christian teachings, reflect on our values and consider how we can live well with one another and in the wider world.
Our worship is inclusive, invitational and inspiring. This means that all pupils and adults are welcomed and encouraged to engage in ways that feel meaningful to them, regardless of their personal beliefs or background. Through stories, music, prayer, stillness and reflection, children are invited to explore life’s big questions and consider how our values of Respect, Courage, Love, Forgiveness, Kindness and Joy shape our actions and relationships.
Pupils play an active role in Collective Worship through our Collective Worship Team, helping to plan, lead and evaluate worship and supporting others in prayer and reflection. These opportunities develop confidence, leadership and a deeper understanding of the school’s vision and values.
We hold a daily act of Collective Worship, which is a truly special part of our school day.
At St Mary’s, spirituality is understood as something that belongs to everyone, whether or not it is expressed through religious belief. It is about developing an awareness of ourselves, our relationships with others, our responsibility for the world around us and, for many, our relationship with God.
Spiritual development happens across all aspects of school life. Children are encouraged to experience moments of awe, reflection and curiosity, to think deeply about their beliefs and values, and to respond with compassion and responsibility. These opportunities may arise through learning, creativity, relationships, nature, or quiet reflection.
Through Collective Worship, the curriculum and daily school life, we nurture pupils who are thoughtful, reflective and compassionate, enabling them to flourish and contribute positively to the world around them.
