We currently have places available in our Nursery class and in our Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 classes. If you would like to apply for a place, please see the section on In-Year Admissions below. Please view our School Prospectus and take a Virtual Tour for further information about our school.
The Governors can accept applications for in-year admissions into the school at any time. A completed In-Year Admission Form and Supplementary Information Form should be returned to the School Office. Admissions will depend on vacancies in the relevant year groups at the time of application. If there are more applicants than places available, the relevant over-subscription criteria will apply. Parents/Guardians may place their child's name on the Continued Interest List if a place is not available at the time of the application. For in-year applications, parents wishing to make an appeal should contact the school office on firstname.lastname@example.org.
All school admission authorities are required to undertake consultation on their admission arrangements if they are changing their arrangements. Even if no changes are being made, they are still required to carry out a consultation at least once every seven years. As St Mary’s is a voluntary-aided school, the Governing Body is the admitting authority. The Governing Body last undertook a consultation on the draft admissions arrangements for the academic year 2016-17 from 2 January and 27 February 2015. Responses were received from Hertfordshire County Council and from the Diocese of St Albans.
Our admission arrangements for entry to the school for the academic year 2022-23 are in the links below. The Governing Body recently sought, and obtained, the consent of the Office for the Schools Adjudicator to vary these admission arrangements due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This was necessary because three of the oversubscription criteria refer to church attendance. The closure of churches during the Covid-19 pandemic means that clergy would not be able to verify a level of attendance in line with the school’s admissions policies and so the amendment removes the requirement for this during the time churches have been/are closed.
If you have any questions about how to apply for a reception place for September 2022, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at email@example.com.
Maintained schools in Hertfordshire are responsible for the admissions of children to Nursery. The following Berkhamsted schools: Bridgewater, Greenway, Potten End, St Mary’s, St Thomas More, Swing Gate, Victoria and Westfield, are working together to ensure the process is the same in each school and that parents receive consistent information that will enable them to make informed decisions about their preferred Nursery school.
The timetable for Nursery applications for children born between 1 September 2017 and 31 August 2018 is as follows:
22 February 2021 – Nursery applications open.
