From September 2020, we have places available in our Nursery class and our Reception, Year 1, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 classes. If you would like to apply for a place, please see the section on In-Year Admissions below. View our School Prospectus for information about the school.
The Governors can accept applications for in-year admissions into the school at any time via the school office and submission of a completed In-Year Admission Form and Supplementary Information Form. Admissions will depend on vacancies in the relevant year groups. If there are more applicants than places available, then the most recent published over-subscription criteria will apply. Parents/Guardians have the opportunity to place their names on the Continued Interest List if a place is not available at the time of the application. For in-year applications, parents wishing to make an appeal should contact the school office on email@example.com.
Maintained schools in Hertfordshire are responsible for the admissions of children to Nursery. The following Berkhamsted schools: Bridgewater, Greenway, Potten End, St Mary’s, St Thomas More, Swing Gate, Victoria and Westfield, are working together to ensure the process is the same in each school and that parents receive consistent information that will enable them to make informed decisions about their preferred Nursery school.
The timetable for Nursery applications for children born between 1 September 2016 and 31 August 2017 is as follows:
3 February 2020 – Nursery applications open.
13 March 2020 – Nursery applications close for on time applications. Applications can be accepted at any point after this date but will be dealt with after on time applications.
29 April 2020 – Nursery places are offered by email.
11 May 2020 – Deadline for accepting Nursery places.
From 11 May onwards, we will continue to accept applications and allocate Nursery places to children subject to availability.
If you would like to apply for a place at St Mary’s School Nursery, please read our Nursery Admissions Policy and complete the on-line Nursery Application Form below. If you worship frequently and regularly at St Mary’s Church, Northchurch or at any other church, please also complete the Nursery Supplementary Information Form and return it to the school office.
All school admission authorities are required to undertake consultation on their admission arrangements if they are changing their arrangements. Even if no changes are being made, they are still required to carry out a consultation at least once every seven years. As St Mary’s is a voluntary-aided school, the Governing Body is the admitting authority.
The Governing Body undertook a consultation on our draft admissions arrangements for the academic year 2016-17, which took place between 2 January and 27 February 2015. Responses were received from Hertfordshire County Council and from the Diocese of St Albans. Following from that, the Governing Body has determined the admission arrangements for the academic year 2021-22 as follows:
We are seeking the consent of the Office for the Schools Adjudicator’s consent to vary our admissions policy for the year 2021-22. This will affect admissions to Reception in September 2021 and beyond. The closure of churches as a result of Covid-19 has raised the issue of clergy being able to verify an applicant’s level of church attendance in order to meet governors’ admissions requirements. Clearly it will not be possible for clergy to verify a level of attendance in line with schools’ admissions policies during the next admissions application round for the academic year 2021/22 and as a result we are intending to amend our admissions policy over subscription criteria to reflect this. This proposal is based on advice received and after consulting the Office of the Schools Adjudicator.
The proposed variation agreed with the Office for Schools Adjudicator is as follows:
“In the event that during the period specified for attendance at worship the church has been closed for public worship and has not provided alternative premises for that worship, the requirements of these [admissions] arrangements in relation to attendance will only apply to the period when the church or alternative premises have been available for public worship”.
Links to our proposed admissions policy and our proposed new Supplementary Information Form 2 are below – the additions are highlighted in yellow. All other aspects of our admissions policy remains unchanged.
