I am delighted to be teaching Year 6 and hope that the children have a fantastic final year at St Mary's. I'm so pleased that we're all back at school and ready to learn once again! We will spend the weeks leading up to Easter settling back into our routines and focusing on our well-being. I'm so proud of each and every one of the Year 6 children. I know we're going to have a terrific year!

Our class text this term is The Ickabog by J.K. Rowling. We have only just started reading it but we are enjoying the story so far! Today we thought about the descriptions given of the Ickabog and created our own artwork imagining what the Ickabog looks like!
For MFL day we focused on the country of Brazil. In Brazil they speak Portuguese. We learnt how to greet people in Portuguese by saying 'Oi' or 'Ola'.
In the morning we spent time doing some research all about Brazil and made holiday leaflets. We researched where Brazil is in the world, what currency they use, what the climate is like, the animals and wildlife you might spot as well as what famous landmarks you may see!
We also spent the morning making Brazilian Brigadeiros which are like chocolate fudge balls covered in sprinkles! They were very tasty to eat!
In the afternoon, we did some art. We thought about which animals you might see in the Amazon Rainforest and used watercolours to create them. After, we choreographed our own samba dance! We rounded our day off by sharing what we had learnt with Reception Class via Google Classroom as they had also been learning about Brazil! It was great to share our learning!
