Autumn term 2020

It has been wonderful to welcome our new Nursery children this term. They have had a super first couple of weeks and we are really proud of them.

Although we have not been at school very long, we have been extremely busy. We have really enjoyed reading The Gruffalo story, and during our Forest school adventures we went on a Gruffalo hunt.

We collected blackberries and apples from the school grounds and made Gruffalo crumble which was really yummy!

The Nursery session runs from 8.45 to 11.45.

Forest school sessions every Monday and Tuesday.

The teaching and learning in the Foundation Stage follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS).

There are three Prime and four Specific Areas of Learning and Development.

Prime areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
  • Physical Development (PD)
  • Communication and Language (CL)

Specific areas:

  • Literacy (Lit)
  • Mathematics (Maths)
  • Understanding the World (UW)
  • Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)

For those wishing to extend their children’s hours, wrap-around care is available through St. Mary’s Pre-school, which operates in the Nursery classroom in the afternoon. This comprises a lunch club from 11.45am to 12.30pm and then an afternoon from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Parents can choose either one or both options, subject to availability. For more information, including fees and current availability of spaces, please email
